Relaxed Screenings
These screenings are specifically designed for those who would appreciate a less formal cinema environment. Seats are not allocated, although wheelchair users have priority over the front row. Audience members have the freedom to leave their seats and move around. Increased noise levels are allowed, lights are left on low throughout and the film and sound reduced to help avoid anxiety.
The aim is to retain all the magic of the cinema but in a more relaxed environment.
Relaxed screenings are open to everyone but may benefit individuals with neurodivergence — autism spectrum conditions, learning difficulties or sensory and communication difficulties or those who may benefit from a more relaxed environment.
Visual aids are available for these showings.
Subtitled Screenings
We regularly show subtitled screenings at our cinema. The timing and frequency of these films depends on availability, but we normally aim to hold them on a Tuesday.
A transcription of the audio from a film, displayed at the bottom of the cinema screen, to benefit people who are hard of hearing. Along with the dialogue from the film, the subtitles include non-dialogue audio such as "(sighs)" or "(door creaks)".
Tea & Biscuit Matinee
Monthly matinee screening are open to all (subject to classification) and happen once a month on a Wednesdays at 11am during term time to co-inside with the local bus service. We serve free tea, coffee and biscuits. Enjoy the pleasure of the cinema, with a free complimentary cuppa and biscuit with friends.
All are welcome!
Audio
AUDIO description for the blind or visually impaired is available for most productions.
We also offer a wireless device for the HEARING/ IMPAIRED which amplifies the audio of all our screenings. This can be worn with or without hearing aids. This provides amplification via headphones on which you can adjust the volume (we provide headphones, but you are welcome to bring your own - 3.5mm jack headset).
For the visually impaired these devices provide audio description (availability dependent on the film company. We advise calling ahead to confirm).
If you feel these screenings may hamper your enjoyment of the film, you may prefer to attend an alternative screening. Please ask a member of staff for more information.
Assistance Dogs
We welcome all trained guide dogs, assistance dogs, buddy dogs, hearing dogs and medical alert dogs into Wyeside.
We do not allow other dogs or pets to enter the Wyeside.
Smoke machines and occasional strobe lighting effects are used in our events. If your assistance dog is sensitive to smoke machines and/or lighting please discuss this with the staff on duty. If your dog requires a water bowl, please ask a member of staff who will be happy to provide one.

While manual and electric wheelchairs are welcome at Wyeside, to the nature of our Grade II listed building and limited spaces, we do encourage advance notice. This enables us to make your visit as enjoyable as possible. We also encourage you to arrive in plenty of time to make yourself comfortable in our auditorium before the performance starts. Unfortunately, if you arrive after the event has started, we may need to wait until a suitable point in the performance to admit you to limit the disruption to other audience members.
