This exhibition, by local artists, pays tribute to the River Wye and the important role it plays in shaping our landscape, culture and heritage.

The artwork is inspired by the Wye’s nature, the flora and fauna of the river and the rich folklore and tales centred around its powerful, mysterious even magical qualities.

The rich tapestry of artwork exhibited is testament to how our local communities are touched by the Wye.

Owen will read from a selection of existing and new work, followed by a Q&A and book signing.

Artist Beverley Thornley will talk about her explorations of the Afon Llynfi and the paintings and books she has made of this tributary of the Wye. Collecting minerals and motifs and using them to depict places and environmental change is the bedrock of Beverley’s practice.

In this case she has collected old red sandstone, oak galls and alder cones for the ink used in her paintings.  She will show how this is done and be selling and signing her artist book Notes on a River - Afon Llynfi. Proceeds will be donated to Friends of the River Wye.

Includes talk, Q&A and book signing.

Music commissioned by Wyeside, to mark our 50th anniversary

Cymuned Gwy is a new collaborative project featuring Nia Lynn (vocals, percussion and harmonium), Toby Hay (guitar) and Aidan Thorne (double bass). The trio has written music inspired by and celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Wyeside, the beauty of its surrounding landscape, the importance of the River Wye with remarkable stories of our local community. 

Through both Welsh and English language Cymuned Gwy celebrates Brycheiniog’s lingual heritage and represents today’s bilingual community. The music weaves all these elements together and is premiered this weekend.

‘Checkmate’ brings together the game of chess, and the images of the silent movie era. Set on a life size chess board, we also see elements of old black and white movies that feature Charlie Chaplin. His character weaves his way through the action of the chess board, sometime observing, occasionally being involved in the action.

Written by David Price and directed by Lynne Jones and David Price, Young Farmers from these two local clubs recently joined forces for the Entertainment competition held earlier this year. They now bring the fun and spectacle of this production to Wyeside during this weekend of celebrations!
